Simón Mejía is the founder of internationally-acclaimed Colombian group and longtime KEXP favorites Bomba Estéreo. Formed by Simón in 2005 as an outlet for his exploratory musical desires, Bomba Estéreo and their vibrant fusion of Latin, electronic, pop, cumbia, and psychedelic styles has steadily evolved over their 15-year career and they've gained a devoted global audience along the way. Earlier this year Simon introduced his new solo alias Monte, a project inspired by a recent move from the metropolis of Bogotá into a house in a rural area nearby, as well as his love of nature and capturing atmospheric field recordings while exploring the jungles of the Amazon and taking journeys along the Magdalena River. Monte's debut album Mirla just came out on September 18th.
Simón's guest DJ mix for Midnight In A Perfect World beautifully reflects the refined sonic palette of his solo project and he hypnotically weaves through an expansive range of spacious, organic, and global sounds.
