“No Pude, habla directamente del sentimiento de temor y ansiedad constante que me da mi país”, asegura Lido Pimienta al referiste a la tierra que la vio nacer, Colombia, y al primer adelanto de su nuevo disco. Actualmente radicada en Canadá, la cantante ganadora del prestigioso premio Polaris por su álbum La Papessa, presenta este single después de tres años. En su música, Pimienta proyecta desde 2002 su propio prisma político sobre género, raza, maternidad, identidad y latinidad.

La chilena Mon Laferte fue lo más comentado durante la última entrega de los Grammy Latinos no solo por triunfar en la categoría "Mejor Álbum de Música Alternativa" sino por usar su cuerpo desnudo como medio de protesta y denuncia ante la violación a los derechos humanos ocurridos en Chile tras la crisis desatada el 18 de octubre de 2019. La creadora del aclamado álbum NORMA visitó Seattle hace algunos meses atrás y acaba de lanzar la canción de protesta “Plata Ta Tá”. En esta canción incursiona en los ritmos urbanos junto a un icono de este estilo, Guayna, para relatar el levantamiento del pueblo chileno. Además el videoclip que acompaña la canción cuenta con la participación de la aclamada actriz mexicana Yalitza Aparicio, en su versión más feminista.
Vale rescatar la historia que le da nacimiento a For Fun, un nuevo EP lanzado en el mes de septiembre por la artista argentina Juana Molina. Acá la banda re versiona de manera furiosa un pedazo de su repertorio. Este experimento surgió cuando llegaron al festival de Roskilde en 2018 y se vieron ante la espantosa sorpresa que confirmaba que su aerolínea había perdido todos los equipos. La historia contará que el show continuó de todos modos, improvisando versiones con teclado, guitarra y una batería. Desde ese día, Juana y su banda suman el punk side de “Paraguaya” en sus presentaciones en vivo y 4 temas más de tres discos distintos bajo el EP de que estamos recomendando esta semana. El video de la canción está a cargo del director argentino Dante Zaballa.

El glamour de los conciertos televisados que caracterizaron la época de oro de la TV y el despliegue de una orquesta en vivo que potencia voces impresionantes, fue el escenario elegido y acertado para la nueva canción de la argentina radicada en España, Nathy Peluso. “Copa Glasé” se grabó en una sola toma y se estrenó la semana pasada para abrir la epoca navideña con un claro mensaje a lo Peluso: “Desapareciste todo el año/ Mi amor, mejor no se te ocurra llamar/ Ni aparecer en Navidad”. El nuevo single está co escrito por el artista uruguayo Jorge Drexler y el videoclip esta dirigido por Alexis Gómez con la colaboración estelar del actor y director Paco León.
Todavía no les compartimos nuestro especial de “5 Canciones” y “El Sonido” con los mejores discos del año (lo haremos) pero podemos adelantar algo: Sombrou Dúvida, de los brasileños Boogarins, es uno de los discos del 2019. La banda de psycho pop más importante de Sudamérica está en un gran momento y así lo plasman en la nueva sesion KEXP que acabamos de publicar. Boogarings tocó en nuestros estudios de Seattle la cancion homonima a su última placa “Sombra Ou Dúvida” y las canciones “Invenção”, “Te Quero Longe” y “Passeio”.

“No Pude, it speaks directly of the feeling of fear and constant anxiety that my country gives me,” says Lido Pimienta when referring to her birth country, Colombia, and about the first single from her new album. Currently based in Canada, the winning singer of the prestigious Polaris award for her album La Papessa, presents her first new release in three years. Since 2002, Pimienta has projected her own political prism on gender, race, motherhood, identity and Latinity in her music.

The Chilean artist Mon Laferte was the most commented on act during the last installment of the Latin Grammys, not only for triumphing in the category "Best Alternative Music Album" but for using her naked body as a means of protest and denunciation against the violation of human rights occurring in Chile after the crisis unleashed on October 18, 2019. Argentine artist Nathy Peluso (now based in Spain) utilizes the glamor of the televised concerts that characterized the golden era of TV and a live orchestra for her latest music video. "Copa Glasé" was recorded in a single take and premiered last week to open the Christmas season with a clear message from Peluso: "You disappeared all year / My love, you better not think of calling / Do not appear on Christmas”. The new single is co-written by Uruguayan artist Jorge Drexler and the video clip is directed by Alexis Gómez with the stellar collaboration of actor and director Paco León.
We still haven’t shared our special “5 Canciones” and “El Sonido” best albums of the year (we will) but we can advance something: Sombrou Dúvida, from the Brazilian band Boogarins, is one of the best albums of 2019. One of the most important psych-rock bands in South America is having a great moment and this is reflected in the new KEXP session that we have just published. Boogarins played in our Seattle studios the title track to their latest "Sombra Ou Dúvida" and the songs "Invenção", "Te Quero Longe" and "Passeio".
