At long last, Lil Wayne is finally releasing Tha Carter V. And quite soon, this Friday, Sept. 28 to be exact. Initially announced back in 2014, fans have patiently been waiting for the New Orleans rapper to drop the album which was delayed due to disputes at his label Cash Money Records over how and when it would be released. Recently, there were widespread rumors on social media that the album was supposed to drop last Friday that ultimately proved false.
“I heard there was a misunderstanding about the release date of the C 5,” Lil Wayne says in a video posted to his social media accounts. “I heard yall got mixed up and thought it was gonna get release like last week or something. Well, I would like for you to know that since y'all stuck with me and hung in there any way for like the past four or five years through all of this but uh on my birthday, I actually have something special. I will be releasing Tha Carter V on my birthday.” The rapper turns 36 on Thursday, September 27.
Lil Wayne’s last studio album was 2015’s Free Weezy Album, released via Young Money Entertainment and Republic Records.
