Prince’s estate and Sony Music Entertainment/Legacy Recordings announced today that they have signed an exclusive distribution agreement that covers 35 of the deceased musician’s previously released albums. Among the titles include are The Gold Experience (1995), Emancipation (1996), Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (1999), The Rainbow Children (2001), and 3121 (2006), as well as Musicology (2004) and Planet Earth (2007), which were originally release via Sony through Columbia. Along with inking a deal for Prince's back catalog, the late musician's estate has a number of projects in the works that will feature material from his storied vault. On September 21st, they'll release a record of previously unreleased home recordings, Piano and a Microphone 1983, and another new album of unreleased material is set to arrive next year as part of a deal with Tidal. An exact release date and title for that project have yet to be announced. [ Rolling Stone ]


Chicago R&B musician Tom Krell, better known as How To Dress Well, has surprise-released a new EP titled Land of the Overflowing Urn. The EP only contains two songs, but the first is seven-minute suite called “Vacant Boat (shred) | Non-Killing 1 | The Anteroom | False Skull 1.” HTDW’s last studio album was 2016’s Care. Since then, he’s shared a few singles, including a cover of Sheryl Crow’s “Strong Enough” and a collaboration with Jacques Greene. [ Consequence of Sound ]

 


Interpol are releasing a new album called Marauder on August 24 via Matador. Last night, they officially kicked off their 2018 world tour in support of the release with a show at the Vienna Arena in Austria and debuted a new song off the album called “Now You See Me At Work.” Footage of the performance arrived online soon after. Previously, the band shared the lead single “The Rover.” [ SPIN ]

 


Trevor Powers retired his Youth Lagoon project two years ago and, today, he’s unveiled two new songs under his birth name. “XTQ Idol” and “Dicegame” come from Powers forthcoming album Mulberry Violence and follow the singles “Playwright,” “Ache,” and “Plaster Saint.” Mulberry Violence is out August 17 via Powers’ on Baby Halo label.
