Phoenix have unveiled a very fashionable new video for “Role Model,” off of last year’s Ti Amo. Directed by Lost Art, the video superimposes the band into vintage footage of fashion photographer Helmut Newton. Hobnobbing with models, the French band plays instruments in a sepia-colored world. Ti Amo is the band’s sixth studio album, following 2013’s Bankrupt!. [ SPIN ]
Mutual Benefit, the project of musician Jordan Lee, has announced a new album titled Thunder Follows the Light. The record follows 2016’s Skip a Sinking Stone and 2013’s acclaimed debut, Love’s Crushing Diamond. Lee has shared two songs from the new album, “New History” and “Storm Cellar Heart.” The former features guest vocals from Johanne Swanson of Yohuna while the latter is described as: "an ode to taking shelter and the fraught impulse to hide from the loudness of the outside world." Thunder Follows the Light is due out September 21 via Transgressive. [ Under the Radar ]
Tyler, the Creator brought a song out from the vaults (or, technically, a flash drive) to share with fans today. Titled “435,” Tyler explained on Twitter, “This was recorded like early Feb, just a verse I recorded in Philly on the Flower Boy tour, this is not an indication of how future things will sound.” The track follows a series of singles including “OKRA,” the “Rose Tinted Cheeks” demo and a freestyle over “Bring It Back.” Last year, Tyler released the almost universally loved (Scum Fuck) Flower Boy. Local artist Jenn Champion, formerly of S and Carissa’s Wierd, has followed up last month’s “O.M.G. (I’ll All Over It)” with a very glossy dance track titled “Time To Regulate.” Both songs will be on her forthcoming album, Single Rider. The record is her first since moving away from the S moniker and was produced by Brian Fennell (aka SYML). Single Rider is out July 13 via Hardly Art. You can catch Jenn Champion performing with Stres and PSA on August 9 at Chop Suey. [ Stereogum ]
