Singer-songwriter supergroup boygenius released their debut self-titled EP last month to much acclaim. Over the weekend, the trio of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus made a stop in Seattle on their US tour to play the Moore Theatre. Today, footage from the show is making headlines for a cover the band did of ‘90s pop-country superstars the Dixie Chicks’ “Cowboy Take Me Away.” The trio injected their angelic harmonies into the intimate, stripped-down performance of the 1999 hit.
The Dixie Chicks have been getting a lot of love lately including a full-length cover of their breakout hit album Fly by Priests’ frontwoman Katie Alice Greer and a cover of “Wide Open Spaces” by Soccer Mommy. Watch boygenius perform “Cowboy Take Me Away” below.
UPDATE: Video from the performance at The Moore has been taken down, but you can listen to boygenius perform "Cowboy Take Me Away" and more music from their recent session on KEXP on our streaming archive. Listen now.
