  • It's been a couple of months, so it's time for new music from Ty Segall. On January 22nd, the prolific artist releases his eighth (or tenth, who really knows) solo full-length, Emotional Mugger, via Drag City. Listen to an album stream below. This is actually the record's second iteration: it was previously released last November on VHS... apparently, the tapes included either the 1993 film My Life or the controversial Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Ty and his band The Muggers mug Seattle on Thursday, January 21st at The Neptune, and KEXP is excited that they'll be the very first LIVE in-studio in the KEXP New Home earlier that day at 1:30 PM PT! [Spin]

  • If you're listening to The Midday Show on KEXP, you've surely heard DJ Cheryl Waters (our resident Canadian music enthusiast) excitedly mention this already, but Wolf Parade are back! The group went on "extended hiatus" back in 2010, with Spencer Krug recording as Moonface and Dan Boeckner keeping busy with Divine Fits, Operators, and Handsome Furs. No new music to share yet, but their website now reads "2016" and they've launched Twitter and Instagram pages. Go and follow. [Pitchfork]

  • Speaking of Canadian music, popsters Stars have made the new year's resolution to cover a song every month for all of 2016, and they're kicking it off with this take on Bob Dylan's 1964 single "It Ain’t Me Babe." Vocalist Amy Milan brings a world-weariness to the track. Listen below: [Stereogum]

  • UK group Bloc Party have endured some line-up changes, losing founding members Matt Tong and Gordon Moakes, but gaining Justin Harris (of Menomena) and Louise Bartle. Together, they'll release the album HYMNS, on January 29 via Infectious Music/BMG/Vagrant. Get a sneak peek with the video for the single "Virtue" below: [Under the Radar]
