  • Northwest troubadour Colin Meloy shared a new song with our neighbors to the north late last week. Titled "Carolina Low," the song was apparently written the same day it was performed on the air. Stream the track via CBC's Q with Jian Ghomeshi at Pitchfork. [Pitchfork]

  • Over the weekend, Chicago footwork pioneer DJ Rashad passed away from an apparent drug overdose. The 34-year-old DJ and producer gained prominence as a member of the Teklife crew, and his most recent album, Double Cup, was released on influential UK label Hyperdub in 2013. He is survived by his parents and his nine-year-old son. [Stereogum]

  • And then on Sunday, the music world lost DJ E-Z Rock (born Rodney Bryce), best known for his collaboration with Rob Base on the 1988 hit "It Takes Two." Their groundbreaking 1989 debut album was certified platinum, which was an impressive feat in hip-hop at the time. Cause of death has not been announced yet for the 46-year-old musician.   • Australian artist Courtney Barnett continues her US invasion with a performance on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live. Watch her stripped down performance of "Avant Gardener" below, and catch her on Saturday, July 5th at the Neptune Theatre, opening for Sharon Van Etten. [Under the Radar]

  • Swedish songstress Lykke Li returns with her third album on May 5th, titled I Never Learn, which you can stream in its entirety via NPR Music. She'll be LIVE on KEXP Thursday, May 22nd at 3:00 PM. [NPR Music]

  • Former Seattle-ite, current Canadian Reignwolf has shared a new standalone track to commemorate the conclusion of his North American tour with Black Sabbath. The blues rock anthem is titled "Lonely Sunday," and you can stream it below: [Consequence of Sound]
