Midnight in a Perfect World: Miles Mercer

NYC-via-Seattle DJ, producer, and label runner Miles Mercer is firmly entrenched in a fresh generation of sonic practitioners emerging from the North American underground that's dedicated to expanding boundaries through innovative psychedelic dance music. Beginning his musical journey in his hometown of Seattle, he co-ran the Grounded event series for four years, honing his skills alongside Seattle's passionate local DJ community. Now based in Queens, NYC, Miles continues to unleash cerebral dance music through his own productions, as well as through Accessory Records and Accessories to Murder, two labels that he recently co-founded with his close friend, collaborator, and fellow former Seattleite Ben Block (aka Simic).

Miles' exclusive all-vinyl guest DJ mix for Midnight in a Perfect World is a hypnotic deep dive into underground electronic music that coolly morphs through ambient, experimental, IDM, techno, dub, and psychedelic styles. He shares this wonderful insight: “I wanted to reflect on the countless nights spent as a teenager driving on 520 in my '01 Volkswagen Passat blasting 90.3 in my car all the way until I began to lose the signal as I descended further into unincorporated King County. KEXP has shaped my musical vocabulary more than any single institution, and it's such an honor to be featured on its airwaves.

Midnight in a Perfect World, KEXP's weekly hour-long guest DJ show, airs Fridays at midnight.
