Named after Medellín, the birthplace of band leader Jenn Taranto that's nestled in the Aburrá Valley of the Andes Mountains in Colombia, Seattle’s Medejin creates lush, ethereal, poignant music often born out of feelings of restless nostalgia. Taranto’s soaring and expressive vocals weave in and out of drifting guitar melodies and punchy, driving rhythms that are accented by guitarist Rebecca Gutterman, bassist Ramsey Troxel, and drummer and backing vocalist Matthew Cooke. Exploring themes of love, loss, self-doubt and motherhood, their heavy yet fragile debut album The Garden has quickly become a KEXP favorite with its deft balance of dream-pop and post-rock styles.
Originally airing on the night of Christmas Eve as the midnight hour transitioned into Christmas morning, Medejin shared these words about her exclusive and festive guest DJ mix for Midnight in a Perfect World: "A little heavy and light, a little dark and bright mix for a magical Christmas Eve late night."
