Alex Anwandter is a Chilean musician and film director who originally emerged on the music scene as the vocalist for the band Teleradio Donoso before embarking on his own solo career in 2010. Now based in New York City, the multifaceted artist just released his 5th solo album El diablo en el cuerpo on May 26th.
Inspired by the avant-garde disco of Arthur Russell, the iconic exuberance of Prince, Marvin Gaye’s 1976 quiet-storm classic I Want You, Latin ballads, Brazilian pop, and post-romantic classical music, the colorful 16-track album marks his most vibrant work to date as he explores an extravagant form of dance music while lyrically tackling complex matters of the heart and mind and soul — ultimately turning the album into a dazzling meditation on queer life and love.
On his exclusive guest DJ mix for Midnight in a Perfect World, Alex shares some of his all-time favorite songs that helped inspire the vibrant and expressive sound of his new album El diablo en el cuerpo.
