West coast artist Jay Som (real name: Melina Duterte) has announced her sophomore LP Anak Ko will be out August 23rd via Polyvinyl. Check out the first single "Superbike" below.

Pronounced "Ah-nuh Koh", the album title means "my child" in Filipino. Following a whirlwind tour of her debut Everybody Works, Duterte retreated to Joshua Tree for a week to recharge. The trip proved inspirational — for the single "Superbike", Duterte tells us via a press release, "I came up with the vocal melody while chopping onions during a rare snowstorm in Joshua Tree, definitely one of my favorite memories from making the album." She adds she was aiming for a sound combining "Cocteau Twins and Alanis Morissette."

Anak Ko was recorded, produced, engineered and mixed by Duterte at home with special guests Vagabon's Laetitia Tamko, Chastity Belt's Annie Truscott, Justus Proffit, Boy Scouts' Taylor Vick, as well as bandmates Zachary Elasser, Oliver Pinnell and Dylan Allard collaborating on the release.

Jay Som stops by Seattle on September 18th at Neumos with Boy Scouts and Affectionately. Check out all the upcoming tour dates below, and listen to "Superbike" below.
