With El Sonido, KEXP has a space every Monday dedicated to spreading Ibero-American music. Three hours a week is not enough so we decided to summon some of the best representatives in different cities of Latin America, Spain, and the United States to curate playlists with emerging and essential artists from their countries so we can discover more.
Julio Adelso, is our Guatemalan collaborator for El Sonido. Julio is a Guatemalan journalist, musical communicator, collector of music on vinyl, music lover and writer. He has collaborated with his local radio station Infinita and other media, spreading the music scene of his country and the world. He is the founder of the musical site El Timbre, with which he seeks to strengthen the Guatemalan music scene and expand the journalistic coverage of the musical scenes inside and outside his country.
"The music scene in Guatemala has changed a lot in the last decade. After having had a golden age in the nineties with post-war rock bands, we lagged behind in the same sound. That same sound, in turn, has lasted two more decades. However, as well as our culture, our current musical panorama is also varied.
With this playlist I contemplate projects that have been important in Guatemalan musical history, new projects and some that ceased to exist, with an emphasis on the current music scene. There are bands that are doing amazing things, artists that have explored new sound boundaries. From metal, jazz and hip hop, to hardcore, punk, post environmental rock and ska, and a whole range of different musical genres. Enjoy this playlist."

Kexp tiene un espacio todos los lunes dedicado a divulgar música Iberoamericana. Esto no alcanza y nos emociona. Por eso convocamos a los mejores representantes en distintas ciudades de América Latina, España y Estados Unidos para que curen Playlists con los emergentes e inflatables de sus países.
Julio Adelso, es nuestro colaborador de Guatemala para El Sonido. Julio es comunicador y periodista musical guatemalteco. Coleccionista de música en vinilo, melómano y escritor. Ha colaborado para la radio local Infinita y otros medios difundiendo la escena musical de su país y el mundo. Es fundador del sitio musical El Timbre, con el cual busca fortalecer la difusión musical en Guatemala y ampliar la cobertura periodística de las escenas musicales dentro y fuera de su país.
“La escena musical en Guatemala ha variado mucho en la última década. Después de haber tenido una época dorada en los noventas con bandas de rock post guerra, nos fuimos rezagando en el mismo sonido. Ese mismo sonido a su vez, ha perdurado dos décadas más. Sin embargo, así como nuestra cultura, también nuestro panorama musical actual es variado.
Con esta playlist contemple proyectos que han sido importantes en la historia musical guatemalteca, proyectos nuevos y algunos que dejaron de existir. Haciendo hincapié en la escena musical actual. Existen bandas que están haciendo cosas increíbles, artistas que han explorado fronteras sonoras nuevas. Desde metal, jazz y hip hop, hasta hardcore, punk, post rock ambiental y ska, y toda una gama de géneros musicales distintos, disfruten esta playlist.”
