Los Angeles indie rockers Local Natives have announced their fourth studio album, Violet Street. Due for release on April 26 via Loma Vista Recordings, the record follows 2016’s Sunlit Youth. Yesterday, ahead of the announcement, the band dropped the song “Café Amarillo” and, today, they’ve followed it up with “When Am I Gonna Lose You.” Both have arrived with videos from director Van Alpert. The former song is a straightforward clip that focuses on the band as they hang out in a gorgeous LA home, drive through the desert hills, and give an outdoor concert in front of picturesque mountains. The video for “When Am I Gonna Lose You” stars House of Cards’ Kate Mara as a lonely, rich woman.
Violet Street was produced by Shawn Everett, whose name you may recognize from this year’s Grammys, where he shared the Album of the Year award for mixing Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour. He's also won Grammys for his work with Alabama Shakes and The War on Drugs. Frontman Taylor Rice says this about “When Am I Gonna Lose You”:
"I got married last year. I found myself in an incredible relationship that was great on so many levels, but I always felt like it was going to go away, fall apart, and crumble. This song is me diving into murky emotions of anxiety and doubt in the middle of love and joy."
Local Natives will be in Seattle for a two-night stint at the Neptune on Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17. Read the Violet Street tracklist, watch the videos for “Café Amarillo” and “When Am I Gonna Lose You,” and watch Local Natives’ 2016 KEXP in-studio performance below.
