On Saturday, March 2, MoPOP hosted their annual Sound Off! Competition, spotlighting local musicians who are 21-years-old and younger. The bands competing had gone through a rigorous semifinals process to make it through this prestigious showcase that’s helped kick off the career of artists such as The Lonely Forest, Parisalexa, The Local H, Sol, and more. As always, KEXP’s Audioasis was on the scene live broadcasting from the event. This year’s event was also hosted by KEXP’s DJ Troy Nelson.
This year’s finals were a jubilant affair with four vibrant performances from all of the finalists, which featured the summer daze of Tacoma’s Baja Boy, the vivacious jazz hip-hop outfit Huey and the InFLOWentials, and the thrilling stage presence of Port Orchard rapper Alex Cade. In the end, the top honors went to winners i///u who wowed the audience with their dreamy, soulful sounds.
