Last year, Interpol unveiled the bold and broody record Marauder, their first since 2014’s El Pintor. Rather than waiting another four years for new material, the New York band has announced a forthcoming EP due out May 17. Titled A Fine Mess, the five-track EP sees the band going in a more upbeat direction from their previous release.
“These are all upbeat rockers,” frontman Paul Banks told NME. “They’re not b-sides. They’re all pretty rich rock songs with big choruses. It’s all material that we can see being played in a club with people dancing. Sometimes when you turn on an Interpol record you expect people to not be dancing because it’s coming from a more pensive or melancholy place. This is a place rocking EP.”
The A Fine Mess EP includes last month’s song of the same title and today’s new single “The Weekend.” It was recorded during the Marauder sessions in late 2017 with Dave Fridmann. Below, listen to “The Weekend” and watch the KEXP in-studio with Interpol frontman Paul Banks from 2012.
On Sat, February 2, Interpol played a dazzling slick show at the Moore Theatre with opening support from fellow New York band Sunflower Bean .
Interpol have shared the second single off their forthcoming album, Marauder.
