Peter Buck and Corin Tucker’s supergroup Filthy Friends will unveil their sophomore record, Emerald Valley, on May 3 via Kill Rock Stars. Last month, they shared the lead single “Last Chance County” and today they’ve dropped the ripping second single “November Man.” A pointedly political song, it takes aim at the man currently presiding over America.
“Long skinny tie/ And hair of gold/ You made the deal/ Our future sold,” growls Tucker over a buzzing guitar.
The R.E.M. frontman and the Sleater-Kinney guitarist/vocalist are joined by The Minus 5’s Scott McCaughey, The Fastbacks’ Kurt Bloch, and drummer Linda Pitmon for Emerald Valley, the nickname for Tucker’s hometown of Eugene, Oregon.
“It’s a beautiful, green, lush valley filled with hippies, yuppies, loggers, farmers, migrant workers all trying to make a life for themselves,” Tucker says. “We try and paint a picture of that for people.”
Filthy Friends will tour behind the new album, with a kickoff show in Seattle on Thursday, May 9. Watch the White House-centered lyric video for “November Man” as well as Filthy Friends’ 2017 KEXP in-studio performance below.
