That seems to have been one of the reasons that birthed Mujeres, the new album by Y La Bamba which drops this Friday and follows their acclaimed predecessor Ojos Del Sol from 2016. Fourteen songs make up the mystic and ancestral journey led by singer and composer Luz Elena Mendoza.
Mujeres is a mirror that returns many reflections of the present and the past. Reflections of a poignant international context that cries for changes, reflections of the crisis of evident national identity and reflections of the power of organization of women in the world fighting for their rights. But, fundamentally, Mujeres is the mirror that reflects the strength and artistic lucidity of Mendoza.
This record, which we present to you exclusively, is their fifth studio album and the concrete evidence of the great step taken by Y La Bamba in their constant search to connect identities and travel through their history.
What is the reality of Mexican-American women? What place do they occupy in the history of this country? What story do they want to tell us? What are they capable of? These are some of the questions that this album will try to outline. Always framed in a deep, spiritual journey and without the need for papers or visas, as we are accustomed to with Y La Bamba.
The Portland-born band will present Mujeres live in Seattle this Sunday, February 10th with Tres Leches and DJ Lucha at the Tractor Tavern.
