With El Sonido, KEXP has space every Monday dedicated to spreading Ibero-American music. Three hours a week is not enough so we decided to summon some of the best representatives in different cities of Latin America, Spain, and the United States to curate playlists with emerging and essential artists from their countries so we can discover more.
Bárbara Salazar, aka Barbarelle, is an Argentinian based music selector currently living in Buenos Aires. Besides collaborating with El Sonido, where she makes the playlist featuring the new and fresh sounds of her country, Bárbara works as a music curator for various other diverse projects, spaces and brands including collaborations with Aurea, where she focuses on Argentinian music from all times, or Revolt Magazine, where she creates playlists with a feminist approach. Barbarelle is also a DJ and vinyl collector, and her music channel can be heard online at Radio Modular.
In this playlist, the new sounds of the alternative Argentinian scene fuse together. The identity of our country always had a unique mixture, and I believe the songs in this selection reflect it clearly. We may listen to a large variety of genres, but they all come together to form a new construction of Argentinian sound. From more recognized artists like Juana Molina to new artists like Weste. From Los Espíritus to Los Siberianos to Los Besos. The Argentinian music scene is in a full creative effervescence and with this playlist, I want to explore and share with you its more interesting parts.

Bárbara Salazar, también conocida como Barbarelle, es una musicalizadora de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Además de realizar la playlist con nuevos sonidos de su país para El Sonido, realiza colaboraciones y trabaja como curadora musical para diversos proyectos, espacios y marcas, como la revista Aurea donde se enfoca en música argentina de todos los tiempos, o Revolt, donde realiza playlists con un enfoque feminista. Además es DJ, coleccionista de vinilos y tiene un canal con su selección musical en Radio Modular.
“En esta playlist se fusionan los nuevos sonidos de la escena alternativa argentina. La identidad de nuestro país siempre tuvo una mezcla muy particular, y creo que la música y esta selección de canciones lo pueden reflejar muy bien. Podemos escuchar géneros muy diversos pero todos forman parte de la nueva construcción del sonido argentino. Desde Juana Molina hasta nuevos artistas como Weste. Desde Los Espíritus hasta Los Siberianos y Los Besos. La escena musical argentina está en plena efervescencia creativa y con esta playlist quiero explorar y compartir lo más interesante del panorama.”
