Jenny Lewis is releasing her first album in five years, On the Line, next month. Today, she’s shared the second single off the album, “Heads Gonna Roll,” the opening track off the record. The new single is not actually all that new, as Lewis has been performing it live for some time, but this is the first studio recorded version she’s unveiled. The unhurried country-tinged song features a star-studded backing band made up of Ringo Starr on drums, Don Was on bass, and The Heartbreaker’s Benmont Tench on keys.
Last month, the former Rilo Kiley frontwoman shared the jangly lead single “Red Bull & Hennessy.” On the Line follows 2014’s The Voyager and was recorded at Capitol Records’ Studio B. Lewis is embarking on an extensive tour behind the album in March, with a date in Seattle on Tuesday, May 21 at the Moore Theatre.
