On November 29th, 30th, and December 1st the southern city of Valdivia, Chile was a showcase for the country’s amazing music scene as part of a new edition of the Fluvial 2018 festival.
Five stages across the city were set for more than 30 shows with local, national, and international artistic programming. In addition to the intent to position Chile as a strong locale for the South American musical circuit, it was also an attempt to strengthen this new industry.
El Sonido’s DJ Chilly was present and participated on the panel focusing on the Future of the Radio in addition to enjoying numerous shows for three days in a row, a perfect excuse to recommend the following five Chilean bands that should be on your radar:
ADELAIDA
It's a trio from Valparaíso, Chile. Their discography consists of the EP Narval (2012), the debut album Monolito (2014), the singles "Holograma" and "Adormidera" (2015), the LPs Madre Culebra (2015) and Paraíso (2017). They have a 2017 LP called Paraíso and two singles, one released in 2016 named 1999, and its most recent Fantasma of 2018. The latter is a prelude to what will be their new album to be released soon. The single featured the collaboration of the U.S. producer Jack Endino, world-renowned for working with Seattle legends like Soundgarden, Mudhoney, and Nirvana.
NIÑOS DEL CERRO
Their so-called "samba-punk" is made possible when Niños del Cerro, a quintet born in La Florida, Chile, and the outstanding label Quemasucabeza, that celebrated their first 20 years in the 2018 edition of Fluvial, teamed up. After their debut Nonato Coo (2015), came the second LP, Lance, released this year with nine new songs.
BRONKO YOTTE
You cannot talk about a Chilean hip-hop scene without mentioning Bronko Yotte. Especially after having released the Nimbo EP, his most recent work at the end of 2017. Felipe Berríos is a Chilean singer-songwriter and MC, and author of five albums. His new songs are summarized in 18 minutes where he intends to deepen his criticism of the political news of his country and the region.
CHINI & THE TECHNICIANS
They’re a Chilean band of alternative pop rock. They were born in 2014 at the hands of visual artists María José 'Chini' Ayarza and Roberto González. In 2015 they released their first EP of five songs, En el Fondo Todo Va Bien. In mid-2015 they went on to become a full band, integrating the visual artist Sebastián Riffo, Gabriel Ardiles and Tiare Galaz (Niña Storm). In 2017, they released their first LP Arriba Es Abajo, with 12 songs that play between folk, pop, and alternative rock.
FAKUTA
After releasing her celebrated album Tormenta Solar in 2014, the musical project of the Chilean artist Pamela Sepúlveda took the time necessary to mature her songs. That's why the maxi-single format of the two newest tracks — "Abrazándote" / "Perfecto Desastre" — is a perfect treat.
Durante el 29 y 30 de noviembre y el sábado 1 de diciembre la ciudad sureña de Valdivia (Chile) fue vitrina de su poderosa música local en el marco de una nueva edición del festival Fluvial 2018.
Cinco escenarios anclados en los principales puntos de la ciudad fueron el soporte para más de 30 shows con programación artística local, nacional e internacional. Además de una intención de posicionarse como plaza fuerte y contundente para el circuito musical sudamericano y el intento por construir una nueva industria.

ADELAIDA
Es un trío de Valparaíso, Chile. El 2017 lanzan su primer LP Arriba es abajo, con 12 temas que transitan lúdicamente entre el folk, pop y rock alternativo.
FAKUTA
Después de su celebrado disco Tormenta Solar del 2014, el proyecto musical de la chilena Pamela Sepúlveda parece tomarse todo el tiempo necesario para madurar sus canciones. Por eso el formato maxi-single de dos canciones usado en — "Abrazándote"/"Perfecto desastre" — le calza perfecto.
