As is their new year's tradition, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has announced their line-up and calendar dates for 2019. Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, and Ariana Grande will headline the fest, held on back-to-back weekends April 12 to 14 and 19 to 21 in Indio, California.
Additional artists include: Janelle Monae, The 1975, Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, Kacey Musgraves, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Khruangbin, Sofi Tucker, Beach Fossils, Yves Tumor, Kero Kero Bonito, Let’s Eat Grandma, Solange, Kid Cudi, Weezer, Aphex Twin, Bassnectar, Four Tet, Christine and The Queens, Wiz Khalifa, Mac DeMarco, Ty Segall & White Fence, Smino, Idris Elba (yes, that Idris Elba), Hop Along, Shame, serpentwithfeet, Bad Bunny, CHVRCHES, YG, Playboi Carti, Blood Orange, Pusha T, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Kaytranada, Jon Hopkins, Lizzo, Soccer Mommy, U.S. Girls, Iceage, Turnover, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and more. See the complete line-up below.
It had been rumored that Kanye West would be one of the headliners this year, but according to TMZ: "Kanye made it clear he wouldn't perform on a traditional 60x40 foot stage because it was 'artistically limiting.' Goldenvoice, which produces the festival, would not allow the stage to be altered or removed for Ye's performance. In the end, we're told Kanye passed."
2019 also marks the festival's 20th anniversary. Back in 1999, Goldenvoice launched with an impressive line-up including Beck, Morrissey, Rage Against the Machine, The Chemical Brothers, and Moby, to name a few. However, Rolling Stone reported they only sold 17,000 tickets for the first day, and 20,000 for the second, leaving the founders in a financial crisis. Over the past two decades, the festival has since established itself as the largest music fest in the U.S.
