POND Announce New Kevin Parker-Produced Album Tasmania

Australian psych rockers POND have announced a new album titled Tasmania, due out March 1 via Interscope Records. Touted as the “sister album” to 2017’s The Weather, the record is described as “an undercurrent of restless, anxious dread in a sheen of light, apathetic content — both real and parody — rather than wallowing in self-pity, encouraging us to celebrate the fruits of our planet, frolic in the ocean, kick up the dust, roll in the grass and enjoy the feeling of being in love — while we still can.”

Tasmania received some star production and mixing by fellow Perthian (not entirely sure if that’s what the people of Perth, Australia call themselves but it has a ring to it) Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. The two bands are already long-linked, with POND frontman Nick Allbrook formerly playing bass for Tame Impala. Alongside the announcement, they’ve shared the lead single “Daisy” via a Jesse Taylor Smith-directed video that was filmed on land owned by the Kulin and Nyoongar Nations (respect to the Indigenous peoples is paid in the opening of the video). Albrook had this to say about the song:

“Daisy includes an interpolation of the Pigrim Brothers ‘I Feel Like Going Back Home’. It’s about hmmmm Summertime, the rigs are out, fires burn, bottl’os and dams drained aaaaand photos leaving us warped memories. Blood and lonely saltwater cowfolk.”
