Death Cab for Cutie have unveiled a cover of Frightened Rabbit’s “My Backwards Walk” for Spotify’s Singles Series. The song comes off of Frightened Rabbit’s beloved 2008 sophomore album The Midnight Organ Fight. DCFC have been vocal about their sorrow over the passing of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison due to suicide earlier this year, even dedicating their latest album Thank You For Today to the late songwriter. Soon after his death, Ben Gibbard stated on Instagram:
“I wish I would have told Scott how much his songs meant to me. Or how The Midnight Organ Fight was pretty much all I listened to for months while going through an extremely dark patch in my life. Or what a wonderfully funny and engaging person I found him to be. If you do anything today to mourn Scott’s passing, please reach out to someone you love and tell them something you’ve been putting off saying. Life is too damn short and you might miss the opportunity to do so. xo Ben”
Ben Gibbard will be performing a solo KEXP in-studio session on Wednesday, September 12 at noon. Listen to Death Cab’s take on “My Backwards Walk” below and watch Frightened Rabbit’s last KEXP in-studio performance from 2016 below.
The Scottish band will pay tribute to their deceased bandmate during a benefit to combat homelessness in December.
Death Cab for Cutie have shared the third single from their upcoming album Thank You For Today
After reports of being missing, the Scottish songwriter’s body was found last night in Port Edgar. He was 36.
