Right in time for the spookiest time of the year, San Francisco experimental outfit Deerhoof have announced a new 7-inch which sees the band re-imagine two tracks from the soundtrack of classic 1980 horror film The Shining. Deerhoof Plays The Music Of The Shining features their take on Béla Bartók’s “Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta,” while the B-side has them interpreting the Al Bowlly song, “Midnight, The Stars And You.” The latter, which plays during the final scene of the film, has been shared.

The cover art for the 7” features the repetitive message “Deerhoof plays the music of the shining,” which plays on the film’s “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” while the vinyl matches the green and purple rings of the carpet in Room 237. Deerhoof Plays Music of the Shining is out October 26 via Famous Class. The 7” follows last year’s Mountain Moves. Listen to “Midnight, The Stars And You” and take a peek at the album art, below.
