Los Angeles rapper Open Mike Eagle has announced a new album titled What Happens When I Try To Relax. The record doesn’t have a release date yet but the first single, “Relatable (peak OME)” has been shared. “It’s too complicated for a quick explanation,” says Mike in a statement. “It's about a lot of things. It’s about expectations of form, anxiety, middle age and middle class. And that’s just the parts I know how to put into words a couple months after writing it.”
Just last year, Mike released the studio album Brick Body Kids Still Daydream and earlier this year his debut album Unapologetic Art Rap was released on vinyl. He also has a new stand-up and musical variety show with comedian Baron Vaughn called The New Negroes airing its first season on Comedy Central in 2019. OME has announced a slew of new tour dates, with a show in Seattle on Monday, November 5 at the Crocodile.
