Experimental electronic songwriter Yves Tumor has been steadily gaining notoriety since releasing his debut album Serpent Music in 2016. He’s remixed tracks for the legendary Ryuichi Sakamoto, had a stand out track on last year’s stellar Mono No Aware compilation, and shared an astounding odds-and-ends album last year called Experiencing The Deposit of Faith. Tumor already graced us with the rattling bombast of the single “Noid” earlier this year and has returned with the gorgeous new track “Licking An Orchid.”
Much like the shadowy, red-tinted music video that accompanies the song, “Licking An Orchid” showcases Tumor at his most mysterious and intoxicating. The beat rumbles over a murmuring bass and soft samples of a plucked guitar. Tumor’s vocals pop out in a semi-shout, rhythmically pulsating against the clatter of the drums. The song also features serene vocals from James K, the founder of record label She Rocks!. Together they create a lush and hypnotizing work. No word yet on a new album from Tumor, but his recent signing to Warp Records bodes well for future material.
