Death Cab for Cutie are releasing their ninth studio album, Thank You For Today, tomorrow August 17. Ahead of its release, the band stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! To perform some songs off the album. On air they performed the lead single “Gold Rush” but Kimmel gave the band the opportunity to play four extra songs for a web-exclusive mini concert. DCFC chose “Autumn Love,” “Your Hurricane,” and “Summer Years” off of Thank You For Today and threw in an oldie, “The Sound of Settling” from 2003’s Transatlanticism. Ben Gibbard continued his support of the Showbox by wearing a shirt inscribed with the words “Save Our Showbox.” Gibbard has been an active participant in the fight to save the Showbox from demolition by the Onni Group, who had plans to build a 44-story luxury apartment building in its place. In a recent City Council vote, it was unanimously agreed upon to extend the Pike Place historical district to include the Showbox, making it immune from demolition. Thank You For Today follows 2015’s Kintsugi and is the first Death Cab record without producer Chris Walla.
