Jay Som (aka Melina Duterte) has announced a collaborative EP with L.A. singer-songwriter Justus Proffit titled Nothing’s Changed, out Sept. 28 via Polyvinyl Records. The EP came about after Duterte relocated from the Bay Area to Los Angeles and met Proffit. The two quickly started jamming together, with songs materializing from the sessions. "[Making Nothing's Changed] felt more like a school project than a recording project," says Proffit. Duterte continues, "I think we both challenged each other with each song, forcing ourselves to either stick to an idea or move on, and accept mistakes."

The EP blends Proffit’s Elliot Smith meets Alex G-style of songwritiing with Duterte’s introspective indie and adds a dash of twang. Having recorded all her own material to-date, Duterte oversaw tracking and mixing in her home studio (in addition to playing bass and keyboard), while Proffit handled lyrics and drums. Together, they shared guitar and vocal duties and most of the songs were tracked in one or two takes. Last year, Jay Som dropped her sophomore album Everybody Works while Justus Proffit released UPS / DOWNS. Below, listen to the title track off of Nothing’s Changed and watch Jay Som’s KEXP in-studio from 2017.
