Pioneering dance music duo Underworld are releasing a collaborative EP with Iggy Pop titled Teatime Dub Encounters later this month. So far, they’ve shared the singles “Bells & Circles,” “I’ll See Bit,” and, today, “Get Your Shirt.” The seven-and-a-half-minute long song closes out the EP and comes with a trippy video from longtime Underworld collaborator Simon Taylor of the film/design collective Tomato. The clip was choreographed by Carys Staton and features dancers Charley Logan and David Ledger. Teatime Dub Encounters came to be while Underworld and Iggy Pop were working on the soundtrack to 2017’s Trainspotting sequel. Underworld’s last album was 2016’s Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future. [ Under the Radar ]
New York post-punk band Parquet Courts have unveiled a cover of the Ramones’ “Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World,” off of their 1976 self-titled album. The band first unveiled the cover during a recent live session at BBC 6 Music and then later uploaded a recorded version of the cover to Soundcloud. Using only synths, Parquet Courts still manage to maintain the frenzied feeling of the original. Parquet Courts released their latest LP, Wide Awake!, earlier this year. The album was produced by Danger Mouse. Catch Parquet Courts at the Showbox on Sunday, September 23. [ Paste ]
Recently, a new project called Big Red Machine was formed between Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and the Dessner brothers (The National). Until today, their music was only available through the website of the collective they belong to, PEOPLE. Now, four new Big Red Machine songs (“Gratitude,” “Forest Green,” “Hymnostic,” and “Lyla”) have appeared on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. Those four songs are said to be a part of a full-length album, with Vernon explaining: “We have a 10-song record that we’ll be spraying out throughout the rest of the summer. We just wanted to put something up in the player for now.” Bon Iver’s last album was 2016’s 22, A Million and The National released Sleep Well Beast last year. [ Stereogum ]
