You guys! Iggy Pop thinks we're "really, really fine"! The Godfather of Punk hosts a Friday night show over on BBC Radio 6. On last week's episode, he played a track from Atlanta, GA punk rockers The Coathangers, and in his back announce, in that distinctive, unforgettable gravelly voice, he says, "there's a video of The Coathangers doing that number on KEXP, which is a really, really fine alternative station and culture hub out of Seattle." (You guys, Iggy Pop has seen our videos!)
And then the iconic Stooges frontman goes on to compliment The Coathangers drummer, Stephanie Luke. "The drummer is wicked strong," he notes. He goes on to ponder, "in basic rock, what is it that the girls know that the guys just don't get? Because the slamming drummers, seem to be — the ones you notice — seems to be girls." Inspired by Iggy's observation, KEXP is celebrating just a few of our favorite female drummers on The Morning Show with John Richards today, and right here with this Video Roundup, starting out with Stephanie Luke herself.
