The Seattle-based Car Seat Headrest are in the midst of a whirlwind worldwide tour behind their recent record Twin Fantasy. Last night the Will Toledo-led band stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform “Bodys” off the new record. With a large six-piece band behind him, Toledo focused on solely singing and put on quite the performance, even with a few cuts to the originally 7-minute song (which Toledo explained to the audience as they were happening). It’s the band at their most vivacious, entertaining, and exciting. [ Pitchfork ]
Trent Reznor’s legendary band Nine Inch Nails have announced a tour and a new album titled Bad Witch. The six-track album will be released June 22 and follows their 2016 EP Not the Actual Events and last year’s ADD VIOLENCE. Their tour (which unfortunately doesn’t stop in Seattle) will feature support from the Jesus and Mary Chain and is called Cold and Black and Infinite. Tickets will be exclusively sold in person at venue box offices rather than online, explaining on their website: “THE PROMISE OF A WORLD MADE BETTER BY COMPUTERS AND ONLINE CONNECTIVITY HAS FAILED US IN MANY WAYS, PARTICULARLY WHEN IT COMES TO TICKETING. EVERYTHING ABOUT THE PROCESS SUCKS AND EVERYONE LOSES EXCEPT THE RESELLER. WE’VE DECIDED TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAT WILL ALSO LIKELY SUCK, BUT IN A DIFFERENT WAY.” [ Spin ]
Last night, English singer/songwriter Jessie Ware stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers to perform “Selfish Love” off of her latest album, Glasshouse. Draped in a red cape/dress outfit, the singer performed the sultry song while backed by her band all dressed in white. Ware is wrapping up the North American leg of a tour behind the album and will soon be heading back to Europe to perform a series of dates there. Glasshouse is out now on PMR. Swedish musician Nina Kinert has moved away from her former Nina K moniker to her full name for her forthcoming album Romantic. Today, she’s shared the second single off the album, “Chapped Lips.” The duet features vocals from Samuel T. Herring of Future Islands. A video for the song has also been revealed which stars Kinert and Herring in a cinematic world based on Jane Campion’s film The Piano and directed by Palmer Lydebrant. Kinert is a huge fan of the Campion film, which influenced much of the album. "The songwriting was majorly triggered by two factors, having a baby and going to New Zealand. I visited a place of my dreams - the beach from Jane Campion's movie The Piano. I was 10 when I saw that film, and I desperately wanted to be just any of the characters...Coming to New Zealand made me feel not only like a part of that film, but as a part of nature -wild and free as it can be when we let it." Romantic is out tomorrow, May 11, via V2. Future Islands recently released the single “Calliope” for Adult Swim’s Singles Program. [ Under the Radar ]
