Mitski wrapped up an amazing personal year by stopping by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to play two songs from her latest album Be the Cowboy. The record has catapulted Mitski to another level of recognition and acclaim, ending up an nearly even year-end list. For her Kimmel performance, she chose album highlights “Nobody” and “Two Slow Dancers.” Encompassing the theme of loneliness that runs through Be the Cowboy, Mitski took the stage sans guitar with two spotlights focused on her. While the band behind her grooves, Mitski stays still, only moving her arms up and to her face while looking solemn and adrift. It’s an incredibly moving performance.
