Last night, the Oscars revealed the shortlists for Best Original Song and Best Original Score. This is the first time since 1979 that the Academy has revealed the shortlist ahead of the nominations for those categories. It’s also the first year that they’ve released the shortlists in the nine categories all at once rather than sending out the shortlists separately.
The 15 songs on the shortlist include Thom Yorke’s “Suspirium” off of Suspiria, Sampha’s “Treasure” for Beautiful Boy, Sade’s “The Big Unknown” from Widows, Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars” for Black Panther, Jónsi and Troye Sivan’s “Revelation” off of Boy Erased, and Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s big hit off of A Star Is Born, “Shallow.” For Best Original Score, the soundtracks for Black Panther, Isle of Dogs, Annihilation, and BlacKkKlansman made the cut.
