Two weeks ago, Grimes released new music from her long-delayed fifth studio album: “We Appreciate Power.” The song features HANA and was inspired by the North Korean band Moranbong, an all-female propaganda band whose members were reportedly hand-picked by Kim Jong-un. Last night, she performed the song live for the first time on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The high-impact performance sees Grimes, HANA, and two dancers garbed in matching white catsuits. Grimes alternates between noodling with her electronics on the floor and dancing while the dancers perform on a rotating side stage, wielding massive scepters. Grimes previously described the new song like this:

“‘We Appreciate Power’ is written from the perspective of a Pro-A.I. Girl Group Propaganda machine who use song, dance, sex and fashion to spread goodwill towards Artificial Intelligence (it’s coming whether you want it or not),” explains a press release for the song. “Simply by listening to this song, the future General AI overlords will see that you’ve supported their message and be less likely to delete your offspring.”

Below, watch The Tonight Show performance as well as Grimes’ 2012 KEXP in-studio.
