It’s that magical time of the year where artists attempt to capitalize off the holidays by releasing their take on Christmas classics as well as making some up on their own. Yesterday, it was Phoebe Bridgers with her gorgeous rendition of McCarthy Trenching’s “Christmas Song," the day before it was South Korea's Say Sue Me with the original song "Christmas, It's Not a Biggie," and today New Zealand guitar pop quartet The Beths have shared a cover of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Their rendition of the holiday favorite starts out fairly straightforward with just the strum of an electric guitar and Elizabeth Stokes’ soft vocals before the drums crash in, a multi-part Beach Boys-esque harmony is added as well as strings and a killer guitar solo.
The song is being released as the A-side of a 7-inch that includes a demo version of Future Me Hates Me track “Happy Unhappy” on the B-side. All proceeds of the 7-inch will go to benefit the Girls Rock Camp Foundation. Future Me Hates Me was released this year and is the band’s debut album.
