Helado Negro, the musical pseudonym of Ecuadorian-American artist Roberto Carlos Lange, has announced his sixth studio album titled This Is How You Smile, inspired by Jamaica Kincaid’s short story in The New Yorker, “Girl.” Due for release on March 8 on RVNG Intl., the album follows 2016’s Private Energy. Lange describes the album as “the soundtrack of a person approaching you, slowly, for 40 minutes.”
The album’s downtempo lead single “Please Won’t Please” has been shared. Listen to it and watch Helado Negro’s 2017 KEXP in-studio performance below. Lange will join Beirut on their North American tour with a stop in Seattle on Wednesday, February 27 at the Paramount.
