St. Vincent follows the recent release of a stripped-down version of “Slow Disco” with an announcement that she’ll be dropping a whole album of stripped-down, piano-based updates to the songs of MASSEDUCTION titled MassEducation. Out Oct. 12 via Loma Vista, Annie Clark describes MassEducation as a “reimagining” of the earlier record.
The album was performed entirely by Annie Clark on vocals and Thomas Bartlett on piano, who recorded it live in the studio over two nights last year while MASSEDUCTION was being mixed. Clark has shared a handwritten letter detailing the experience. “We neither rehearsed nor spoke about how to approach my song, but rather, played 2-3 live takes, picked the best one, and trusted in the feeling of the moment,” says Clark. “It was fast. Intuitive. Discovered. Raw.”
The reworked version of “Savior” has been shared, listen to it below and watch St. Vincent’s KEXP in-studio performance from January 2018.
"Slow Slow Disco" follows "Fast Slow Disco" and original "Slow Disco."
