Julia Holter is releasing her fifth album in eight years, Aviary, next week via Domino Records. Today, she’s shared the second single off the album, “Words I Heard,” via a video by Dicky Bahto. The song was inspired by a story by Lebanese-American artist Etel Ednan that centers around the lush nature of Mount Tamalpais.

“When Julia told me that the title of her album was inspired by Etel Adnan, one of my favorite writers, I felt that I had to make a film for one of the songs on Mount Tamalpais, a recurring subject in both Adnan's visual art and her writing,” explains Bahto in a press release. “I filmed on a few hikes down the Dipsea trail, and in the last section of the song combine this with footage made during the studio sessions of the album."

“Words I Heard” follows the lead single “I Shall Love 2,” the video of which Bahto also directed. In 2019, Holter will make a stop in Seattle to play Neumos on Wednesday, March 6. Watch the video for “Words I Heard” and Holter’s KEXP in-studio performance from 2015 below.
