Back in 2007, before the band really took off, DJ Shannon invited the Scottish newcomers Frightened Rabbit to her overnight shift on KEXP. Shannon managed to find not only the audio but some rare photos from the session. As we wrap up yesterday's Music Heals programming and last night's Music Heals Mental Health: A Tribute to Scott Hutchison, revisit this intimate performance. Read some of DJ Shannon's reflections on the Frightened Rabbit set below.
"The debut of Frightened Rabbit on KEXP on my overnight radio show on October 23rd, 2007. My friend, Daylen, was their tour manager and asked if I’d be interested in hosting them. Forever indebted.
"They opened for Pinback that night at the Showbox Market and played an acoustic set in the booth with me at 1:24 AM. They ran over to KEXP immediately after their show. NO ENGINEER was present during this session. I had never hosted a band before. Please excuse my fiddling around with the controls. I haven’t listened to this session in forever. I haven’t been able to listen to any FR songs. This has helped me immensely. Hope you enjoy it!"
