Canadian electronic duo Purity Ring has released a new song called "Asido" today, on the five year anniversary of their debut LP Shrines. It premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 and comes with a lyric video that was written and directed by frontwoman Megan James. In a statement, James said of the track, “I imagine a tractor digging graves, I imagine crying blood, and I imagine eggs being swept away in it.” [ Pitchfork ]
Katie Crutchfield has shared a dreamy new video for the Waxahatchee song "Recite Remorse," off of her recently-released album Out in the Storm. Directed by Ricardo Rivera, the clip features Crutchfield wandering through a sea of silky fabrics. Ricardo said of the video, “I am a video installation artist first and foremost, and this was the perfect opportunity for me to create an interpretive installation. I created an immersive space with layered translucent fabric and video projections and filmed Katie Crutchfield reacting to those elements. Optical layering of imagery onto the fabric and onto Katie created a video effect similar to many music videos of the ’90s, but done in practical way. Dreamy vibes for a dreamy song.” Waxahatchee is in Seattle tonight, playing at the Neptune Theatre. [ Consequence of Sound ]
English brother-band The Cribs have announced their new album 24-7 Rock Star Sh★t and shared the lead single "Rainbow Ridge." The band says the new album is a “return to our roots and the raw approach we took on our first two records in 2004 and 2005.” Indeed, it has an early aughts lo-fi guitar-stomping sound. 24-7 Rock Star Sh★t was produced by Steve Albini and will be out August 11. The latest marketing stunt in an endless parade of gags leading up to Arcade Fire's release of their upcoming album Everything Now is pretty clever. The band has created parody site of music column Stereogum called "Stereoyum" and has released a “Premature Premature Evaluation” of Everything Now, which they gave mixed reviews of. The gag was likely spurred by an article posted a few weeks ago on Stereogum called "Remember When Arcade Fire Were Good?" Synth-pop duo Sylvan Esso released their sophomore album What Now earlier this year and now they've decided to get together with their friends to reimagine the album. Back in April, they spent a day at Asheville’s Echo Mountain Studios with members of Wye Oak, the Mountain Goats, Hiss Golden Messenger, Mountain Man, and Megafaun to create a "visual EP" of songs off of What Now that they're calling Echo Mountain Sessions. The first video of five to be released is "Rewind." NPR will be sharing a new video from the project every day leading up to its release on July 28. Sylvan Esso will have a two-night stint at the Neptune Theatre on Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19. [ Stereogum]
