KEXP

KEXP listeners know: we love Canada Day. We were honored to have Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stop by the station to record a station ID for us. We've even teamed up with the Consulate General of Canada in Seattle to include Vancouver-based artist Louise Burns to our Rocks the Dock line-up today at Waterfront Park, between the Great Wheel and the Aquarium (more details here).

Even though DJ Cheryl Waters isn't on the air to host what would've been our ninth annual Canada Day special, our Saturday DJs are continuing the tradition all day long this Saturday, July 1st. (See the on-air schedule below.) And right here on the KEXP Blog, we're sharing just a smattering of northern neighbors who've crossed the border to perform LIVE on KEXP for us. Happy Canada Day!

  • 7:00 AM: On Mind Over Matters, Diane Horn welcomes Canadian author Meredith Wadman who will discuss her latest book, The Vaccine Race: Science, Politics, and the Human Costs of Defeating Disease.
  • 9:00 AM: On Positive Vibrations, Kid Hops will be spotlighting the Toronto reggae music scene.
  • 12:00 to 6:00 PM: DJs Morgan and Troy will be spotlighting the Great White North on their respective shows.
  • 6:00 PM: Audioasis welcomes guest DJ Sean Morrow who will play nothing but Vancouver/Victoria area bands. (Sean is from Canada, so he's authorized.)
  • 9:00 PM: Sonic Reducer is kicking it off with a 24-minute-long song from Calgary band Chixdiggit.
