  • Sam Beam's project Iron & Wine is back with a new album, a new single with video, and some tour dates. The single is called "Call It Dreaming" and the video was directed by J. Austin Wilson. The video features Beam and his friends performing in a magical pickup truck that moved by itself without a driver. The album is called Beast Epic and is due out August 25 via Sub Pop. Beast Epic is Iron & Wine's first new solo material in over four years, since 2013's Ghost on Ghost which was released by Nonesuch. In a statement about the album, Beam said, "It's a warm and serendipitous time to be reuniting with my Seattle friends because I feel there's a certain kinship between this new collection of songs and my earliest material, which Sub Pop was kind enough to release." There will also be a deluxe 2xLP version on red and blue vinyl "with alternate artwork, two bonus tracks from the Beast Epic recording sessions along with three home recorded demos and an etching on side D." Iron & Wine will be in Seattle on Wednesday, October 18th at the Moore Theatre. [ Under the Radar ]
  • Gorillaz just released their new album Humanz a month ago but the band has a whole lot more up their sleeves. Today they surprised fans with a brand new song called "Sleeping Powder" and an accompanying video. Damon Albarn has said that he has 40 to 45 tracks leftover from the initial Humanz recording sessions and 14 of those are set to be part of the album's deluxe vinyl box set release on August 25th. “I’m just sort of slowly going through all tunes that sort of didn’t work out and finishing them,” he told Zane Lowe in an interview. “I can stay in the game for at least another 18 months, I reckon.” The song is credited to Gorillaz virtual member, 2D,  via the band's mobile app. The psychedelic video for the cut samples the famous "This Is Your Brain on Drugs" advertisement. Gorillaz will be playing the Key Arena on Saturday, September 30th. [ Consequence of Sound ]
  • Daniel Lopatin's experimental electronic project Oneohtrix Point Never has scored Good Time, a new film starring Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Jason Leigh and directed by Josh and Benny Safdie. Warp is releasing a soundtrack for the film score, which won the Soundtrack Award at this year's Cannes Film Festival, on August 11th. The first single from the soundtrack, "The Pure and the Damned," a collaboration with Iggy Pop has been released. [ Pitchfork ]
  • The Chris Cornell tributes keep coming. During a Prophets of Rage show last in Berlin, the instrumentalists of the band performed "Like A Stone," their biggest hit as Audioslave, the supergroup formed after the breakups of Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden. Prophets members Tom Morello, Tim Commefrod, and Brad Wilk were given the stage to themselves next to an empty microphone intended to be for Cornell, letting the audience take over singing his parts. Tom Morello writes in an Instagram post, “Like A Stone” Chris Cornell tribute, Berlin. The crowd sang beautifully. Miss you, brother. #EmptyMic" [ Spin ]
