  • Australian psych outfit King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard took over 2017 by stating at the beginning of the year that they would put out five albums in just this year and then...did it. Their fifth album doesn't have a name yet but should be dropping soon. They've previously shared two tracks off the album: "Beginner's Luck" and "All is Known" and today they've shared the hypnotic third single entitled "Green House." The new album follows February's Flying Mictronal Banana, June's Murder of the Universe, August's Sketches of Brunswick East, and last month's Polygondwanaland. [ Consequence of Sound ]
  • Gorillaz came back with a fury this past April with Humanz, their first album in 7 years. According to a new interview with Jamie Hewlett, we won't need to wait that long for another album. In fact, it looks like we can expect a new Gorillaz album to drop in 2018. We’re going straight into the album with no break,” Hewlett says. “Usually we have a good five-year break between each album but we decided: ‘You know what? Let’s keep going’ because there’s ideas for a few more albums so we’re going to go straight into that. So that will be all of next year and probably the year beyond that.” The news arrives at the 10:20 mark. [ Stereogum ]
  • Yo La Tengo have recently been playing an eight-night run of Hanukkah shows at New York's Bowery Ballroom. This used to be a tradition of theirs over five years ago at the now-defunct club Maxwell's. The shows are a fun mix of covers and collaborations featuring a ton of special guests. Last night's show brought out comedians Chris Gethard, Josh Gondelman, and Fred Armisen, members of bands Hypnolovewheel and 75 Dollar Bill, and Oscar-nominated actor Michael Shannon. Shannon, who's currently starring in Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water, took the microphone to take on a cover of Suicide's 1977 song "Ghost Rider," with Armisen on drums. Yo La Tengo will be in Seattle early next summer for two nights on Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1 to play the Neptune. [ Brooklyn Vegan ]
  • Rapper and producer MF DOOM broke news on Instagram that his 14-year-old son Malachi had passed away on Monday. In the post, he holds a picture of his son. The caption reads “The greatest son one could ask for. Safe journey and may all our ancestors greet you with open arms. One of our greatest inspirations. Thank you for allowing us to be your parents. Love you, Mali.” The cause of death has not been released. [ NME ]
