Indie folk darling Angel Olsen kicked off her North American tour last night in Charlottesville and treated the audience to a surprise cover of beloved icon David Bowie's "Five Years." The song comes from 1972's classic The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. Olsen recently released a new collection of B-sides, demos, and covers called Phases via Jagjaguwar that features the previously unheard songs "Fly on the Wall," "Sans," and "Special." [ Pitchfork ]

Courtney Barnett only just released her new collaborative album with Kurt Vile, Lotta Sea Lice, but it appears that a new solo album from Barnett may be out soon. In an interview with Zane Low for Beats 1 the singer/songwriter said, “I’m trying to come up with a title for my new album… It’s all one-sentence thoughts, you know trying to come up with something clever.” When Lowe asks her if she’s finished with the album: “It’s well, I mean, maybe I gave too much away but it’s getting close.” The interview is set to air tonight at 9:10PM on Beats 1. Oakland darkwave producer, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist Luis Vasques shared the second single from The Soft Moon's forthcoming album Criminal. Titled "It Kills" the industrial track comes with an ominous video from Kelsey Henderson. "'It Kills' represents my constant struggle with making the same mistakes in order to feed my desires. A continual battle with the conscience. Some inspiration comes from a quote by William Blake: 'Those who restrain desire do so because theirs is weak enough to be restrained." The song follows lead single "Burn." Criminal is out February 2 via Sacred Bones. [ Line of Best Fit ]

Since 2014, the Children’s Cancer Association music program MyMusicRx has been putting on an online music festival of sorts where artists perform from their beds as a show of solidarity with kids forced to spend the holidays in a hospital bed. It's cleverly titled Bedstock. This year the roster of artists participating in the event includes the Breeders, Iron & Wine, Stephen Malkmus, Charly Bliss, Hiss Golden Messenger, Juliana Barwick, and more.
