Song of the Day: Until The Ribbon Breaks – Here Comes The Feeling

After finding fame making remixes for The Weeknd, Sam Smith, and Lorde, Until The Ribbon Breaks released A Lesson Unlearnt, their debut LP of original tracks, in 2015. Then, they went silent. The duo from Cardiff, Wales spent nearly two years without releasing new music, as founding member Pete Lawrie Winfield struggled with anxiety and alcoholism. They’ve re-emerged with “Here Comes The Feeling,” a sharp, catchy song that reflects the now-sober Winfield’s renewed sense of clarity and purpose.

“Here Comes The Feeling” has an upbeat and dancey tone, but there’s a lyrical darkness lurking beneath the polished recording. The song is about being unable to say what you’re really feeling to your partner when you’re falling out of love with them, punctuated by a chorus that goes: “It gets stuck in my teeth/Can’t find the words to say goodbye.” The poetic words weave in and out of looped piano, synths, and drums, all of which are played by Winfield and his longtime bandmate Elliot Wall.

“Here Comes The Feeling” is the first single from Until The Ribbon Breaks’ forthcoming sophomore album.
