We're so excited to have Bob Mould joining us next month for KEXP's New Home Grand Opening on Saturday, April 16th! KEXP Music Director Don Yates observes that on Mould's latest solo album, "the former Husker Du/Sugar frontman continues his latter-day resurgence with another impressive set of anthemic, punkish pop-rock reminiscent of the music made by his former bands, combining loud, fuzzy guitars, punchy rhythms and bright pop melodies juxtaposed with dark lyrics revolving around lost love, depression and mortality."
Other highlights this week include the latest from Portland trio The Thermals, described as "another fine set of anthemic pop-punk with crunchy guitars, punchy, mostly uptempo rhythms and mostly dark lyrics revolving around lost love and mortality." Austin band White Denim return with their sixth album, "a fun set of bluesy, '70s-steeped guitar rock inflected at times with funk, soul and other styles, combining fiery guitar solos, playful keyboards and shifting time signatures with fist-pumping song hooks." Swedish band The Sun Days debut with an album of "hook-filled pop-rock combining jangly guitars, driving rhythms and sunny melodies with Elsa Fredriksson Holmgren's plaintive vocals and often-melancholy lyrics."
Former Archers Of Loaf/Crooked Fingers frontman Eric Bachmann shares his sophomore solo release, "an often-poignant set of well-crafted folk-pop ranging from jaunty, '60s/'70s-steeped pop-rock to spacious, piano-based ballads." And Minneapolis duo Night Moves return with a "well-crafted set of '70s-steeped psych-pop reminiscent of Todd Rundgren and George Harrison, with gleaming guitars and keyboards, yearning vocals, melancholy lyrics and wistful melodies."
Local band Tacocat lead the pack in a very busy week of new releases. KEXP Music Director Don Yates says "this Seattle band's third album is an excellent set of punkish power-pop with crunchy, occasionally surfy guitars, energetic rhythms, sugary melodies and often-biting, wickedly humorous lyrics …
This week, you can finally get your hands on the debut from London trio HÆLOS. KEXP Music Director Don Yates calls it "an excellent set of moody electro-pop with a dark, haunting sound featuring atmospheric synths, hypnotic hip hop and electronic beats, ethereal vocals, melancholy lyrics and anthem…
