A review of Fauna Shade's single "Marzipan" described their sound as "Floydian... zapping electronic wiggles." This simultaneously whimsical yet vague description fits the band perfectly: their sound bounces through all the psychedelic subgenres, with droning stoner fuzz meeting some of Tame Impala's catchier melodies, all set to a patient, mid-tempo shoegaze backdrop. The Everett, Washington, outfit describe their entry into the local scene through EMP's Sound Off! as at times uncomfortably competitive - but they were pleasantly surprised to have come in second and still seem comically uneasy discussing their success as a band: they quickly turn the conversation away from their rising-star status to talk with Audioasis host Sharlese about their very well-fed cats. The songs, cuts from their debut album, Baton Rouge, drift through heavily effected but perfectly composed hills and valleys until they hit us with a surprise Clarence Clemons-esque sax solo to close out "Delirium." As they end their set blessing us with their recommendation for the best Hawaiian-fusion restaurant in Everett, we're left staring at the Sasquatch ticket page hungry for the only chance to see them play live for the scheduled future.
