Song of the Day: Bardo:Basho - From Nothing

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. This week, we are featuring artists performing the 2015 Decibel Festival, which runs September 23-27. All songs are selected by DJ Sharlese. Bardo:Basho is Kirsten Thom originally from Portland, Oregon, now living in Seattle. I know Kirsten from volunteering at KEXP. We worked very closely together on KEXP’s Community Partnership Program and sometimes she assists for me when I host Expansions. When Kirsten was working with me, we talked a lot about music. She sometimes mentioned her music, but I didn’t realize how wonderful she was until I saw her perform at a house party on Capitol Hill. She was captivating! Her voice is so lovely! Her music is so hauntingly beautiful and moving that it’s so wonderful to she’s a part of the festival this year. She released her debut full length in March, but this track, “From Nothing”, is super exclusive and unreleased. She was kind of to give it to me and I think you’ll enjoy it. This song is truly an adventure. The way her vocals lay gently between the sounds make you feel very warm, it gently surrounds your brain in a wonderful way. Bardo:Basho is playing the very exciting all-female Discwoman showcase on Thursday, 9/24 with Jlin, Natasha Kmeto, Young Ejecta and Experimental Housewife.
