It's with terrible sadness that KEXP reports Darius Minwalla, longtime drummer for local band The Posies, passed away yesterday, May 21st, in his home in Vancouver, BC. Cause of death has yet to be determined. Minwalla joined the power-pop quartet in 2001, appearing on their 2005 comeback album Every Kind of Light, 2010's Blood/Candy, and touring extensively with the band. He also played live with Harvey Danger, the Long Winters, and, most recently, was a member of Hugh Cornwell of The Strangler's touring band. For many years, Minwalla was the bar manager at Neumos. In a statement on their Facebook page, The Posies wrote, "He was loved very much by many people; we're still struggling to cope with the loss."
